Hurricane Katrina Part One

Video Description:

This segment is from my 2005 DVD entitled "Tracking the Hurricanes: 2005". Here, in part one, I begin tracking hurricane Katrina with my colleague, Mike Watkins, in south Florida. From there, Mike and I head over to the coast of Mississippi to complete the mission of observing and documenting one of the deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history. However, the story does not end with landfall as we will see in part two.

THE Hurricane, because Katrina will always be THE to the ones who went through it was bad enough, but it only lasted hours. The aftermath, so often overlooked was part of went on for months and years. The cleanup, the totaling of losses, human and material is part of the whole package of misery. For us who survived was years of putting things back together and I think the Gulf Coast has done well. I would like to thank all the people and organizations who came to the coast and helped us!

in all honestly, i blame the government. they didnt provide the things people needed to evacuate and shit. yes, some people chose to stay, and thats their decision, but the government could've helped by a landslide..

@JakeASaurrrx I blame Nagin and the Kathleen Blanco for not providing these people transportation. They could have used school buses if necessary. When you see a massive storm like that approaching your coastline, you take all necessary precautions.

@xxjayfrostxx you mean the old sick car-less and poor people - the senior citizens and nursing home people who had no way out- its easy to say things like you said but the facts are always more enlightning and far more explanatory as why most died! Sure some people stayed by choice but most didnt!
@ArtStone but both ... ( 1 week ago by salvadory)
@ArtStone but both of those happened a century ago more or less- katrina was a major disaster and in the top five for sure in our lifetimes! And considering it happened with engineer designed levees and all our technology and emergency response makes it even more tragic- plus the fact that Missisippi had damage as bad or even worse- Mt St Helens though was one of the most damaging ecological disasters in us history - time will tell with the oil spill!

@JakeASaurrrx I don't see how people ALWAYS blame the Goverment when something goes wrong, they had plenty of time to leave, they chose not too and now they want people to cry for them, none of them get any sympathy from me. At some point you need to take responsibility for yourself and your family and LEAVE. It's always the Goverment or the White man, Cry another tune.

I am from new orleans too but i live in aiken,sc i was so sad about new orleans when it was under water i went there in august to see some faimly and they are still trying to fix some of the damage buildings from hurricane katrina
@RetroJenny ... ( 5 days ago by michigan6443)
@RetroJenny Exactly and they turned it into a racial thing which i find strange because many poor black people and white people made it out despite lack of TRUE leadership from Nagin and Blanco. Standing in New Orleans after the fact and destruction passed is just stupid. Neither the Mayor nor the Govenor had and plan in place for a category 5 heading to their shores. very shameful. But as one guy said from New Orleans "I saw the size of it on TV and I knew I had to leave immediatly" .
