Many people were forced to leave their pets behind.
The cops later took animals and shot them to death.
Those officers were filmed laughing while shooting and killing people's pets.
I left the region last year after Gustav for fear if another Katrina happened my current dog I rescued would end up as target pratice by some redneck hillbilly cop.
I love my dog to much to let that happen to him and yes some people are evil.
I've gone thru five hurricanes like I said. There are no evacuations plans for pets here either. None of the evacuation areas allow pets. So like I said I'd never leave my pets. N.O. is different vs. where I live there homes for hurricanes pretty much suck. Gone thru five here in Florida, newer home, dogs with me, winds of 150+ mph. Home was fine dogs were with me in bed. Never would I leave them, even if my house were built of straw they'd go wherever I go.
You sound like good people to me.
Rex and I moved far away from the ocean and New Orleans last year.
But prior to that year I had extra dog food and clothes packed and water for us to drive to Texas if not further nothing in my home is worth both of us not being together.
If a storm is coming pack a bag and extra food and water for yourselves lock up the house and leave to someplace safe.
Take care and god bless from Rex and Happymike.
Sorry but Rex is my first priority in life to me.
Most people treat me like I have no feelings due to my disability.
I talk funny and often run into trouble with people who don't understand when I speak and many don't know how to sign.
But Rex didn't know me but still gave me a chance to love and teach him what a forever family is.
I'm just the lucky guy with the dog who loves to sit with me and just be there for me.
